Say what you will about social media, but without it, we would not have experienced the countryside of Austria in a lovely town called Grossarl. Thanks to a Montana friend, the ease of Facebook and her Facebook connection to her Austrian friend here, were were able to “intrude” on a wonderful family who opened up their home to us. Although the sun didn’t quite cooperate, it was still a gorgeous drive (about an hour out of Salzburg) and we really enjoyed getting to know more new people. Manuela and Ruud (although he is Dutch, so it is agreed to pronounce it Rudy – just like our beloved pup) run Appartements Stockinger in the mountain town of Grossarl, actually spelled Großarl to be completely accurate (because my blog is always accurate… not so much unfortunately, I am no Rick Steves. Reed says he is happy I am not, in fact, Rick Steves…). At any rate, they have a 3 yr old, so Eliot struck gold in Legos and train toys.
We arrived on Saturday morning and caught the gondola up to the top while Reed and Ruud skied in between bier(s). The kiddos had a blast!
Manuela cooked for us and took care of our every need, their Austrian hospitality was first-class. (THANKS MANUELA!!!) I am sure they tired of our endless questioning about the Austrian and Dutch culture, we talked their ears off! Perhaps we were happy to speak English again….
Next up, the CASTLE we visited on our way back from here. And, I have to make a plug for the post prior to this (link in red at bottom), if you don’t have a lot of time to visit them all, that one was a great day, please consider a ‘click!’
Yours in Austrian Haze,
Kim & Reed & Eliot
